James McCune Smith
The third of three media pieces for Slavery in the Civil War, these monologues were acted by Emmy Award-nominee Danny Glover, who embodied James McCune Smith, the brightest African-American New Yorker of his generation. These films follow the arc of Smith's life from young idealist intent on fighting slavery to tired old man weary from decades of battle. His life provides a metaphor for his generation's journey.
